MOMMY MAKEOVER
Mommy Makeover is a popular term used in Plastic Surgery but means something different to each patient. In general, it is a surgical procedure that addresses any and all concerns that a mother typically has following the changes that occur with childbirth and breastfeeding.
Who is a good candidate for a Mommy Makeover?
During childbirth, the “ab muscles” and skin are stretched towards the end of pregnancy. These changes can result in stretch marks and permanent stretching of the tissue in between the ab muscles. In addition, some women find it difficult to lose some of the fat deposits in the abdomen that were gained during pregnancy. For women who choose to breastfeed, their breasts will often go through permanent changes and will lose fullness and develop loose skin when they stop breastfeeding.
For these reasons, a Mommy Makeover usually refers to a combination of a Tummy Tuck, Liposuction, and a Breast Lift, Augmentation, or Augmentation Mastopexy depending on the patient’s needs or desires.
In addition, many patients that have had children via vaginal birth may benefit from Labiaplasty to address the changes that can occur to the vaginal tissues.
What should a patient expect during and after a Mommy Makeover?
Depending on the procedures performed, there will generally be a 2-6 week period without heavy lifting. It is helpful to arrange for friends or family to assist with young children in the household because there will be a restriction on lifting children for several weeks after surgery.
What results can a patient expect from a Mommy Makeover?
Patients can expect a significant improvement in overall body shape and contour. They can expect each of their concerns to be addressed according to a custom treatment plan.
